Bollan set for talks over sacking

The sharp drop in RPI and CPI is mainly due to the emergency rise in VAT to 20% in January 2011 no longer being included in the year on year comparison of prices.  British Gas’s 5% cut in electricity prices and steady petrol prices have also helped rein in CPI

January 2012 Retail Prices Index (RPI) & Consumer Prices Index (CPI) (figures represent % change over 12 months)

Headline Inflation Rate (RPI All items) 3.9% down 0.9% from 4.8% in Dec 2011
Underlying Inflation Rate (RPIX excl mortgages) 4.0% down 1% from 5% in Dec 2011
Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 3.6% down 0.6% from 4.2% in Dec 2011
