Asbestos > Overview

Asbestos is still a killer
Asbestos was once described as a ‘miracle mineral’ because of its fire resistance and insulating properties and was widely used in the construction of schools between the 1950’s and 1970’s. It is estimated that Asbestos is present in 90% of Britain’s 25,000 schools and any one working at the school – teachers, office, maintenance and catering staff, classroom assistants and nursery nurses as well as pupils is at risk of being exposed to the fibres.
