GMB North West and Irish serve thousands of members working in diverse roles in the NHS: cleaners, administrators, caterers, porters, theatre staff, technicians and ambulance workers. We help protect their rights in the workplace, assisting with the negotiation of their terms and conditions, representing them when required, and providing them with an effective collective voice.

GMB regional organisation of the NHS
The GMB has a team of full time officers with responsibility for the NHS across the North West & Irish region. There is also a network of local, trained workplace reps. Reps and officers deal with a range of workplace issues on behalf of GMB members such as corporate reports, on-call payments, staff nursery charges, pay protection, M.A.R.S., job evaluation processes, CBU restructures, disciplinaries and grievances

Current issues in the NHS:
Health and Social Care Bill
The Coalition Government are proposing a radical overhaul of the NHS which includes more privatisation of healthcare. They want more privatisation of healthcare. If the reforms are carried through, one million NHS workers could be affected.
Circle Healthcare
The government has signed a contract allowing Circle Healthcare, a private company, to deliver a full range of hospital services for Hichingbrooke hospital in Cambridgeshire. GMB is watching developments closely for any sign of impact on its members and patients.
Public sector pensions
The current government's proposed changes to public service pensions affects GMB members and all staff in the NHS. GMB are actively opposing these changes. For the latest news and information about this campaign visit our Public sector pensions campaign page
