Training for GMB workplace organisers

GMB trains new and existing workplace organisers to equip them with the skills and knowledge to carry out their union role. Training consists of on-the-job training and formal courses to ensure workplace organisers:

  • are well informed about relevant issues such as workplace rights and legislation
  • feel confident and empowered to support GMB members in their place of work
  • are kept updated about changes, developments and current campaigns

Training stages

  1. Initial support training: an informal session held during first month
  2. GMB@WORK training course: a formal course within first 3 months, outlining how workplace organisers can build GMB membership in their place of work, and production of the Workplace Organising Plan
  3. Ongoing courses: further courses to help develop the Workplace Organising Plan further
  4. Specialist courses: additional courses in specialist areas eg Health & Safety, Employment Law
